
Introduction to Filet Crochet

During this 3 week course ( 3 x 2 hour sessions), we’ll cover the key techniques of working in the filet crochet style such as the basic principles of: reading & crocheting the charts, increasing and decreasing, borders and designing your own patterns. You can create something very traditional in thread or use the techniques with a thicker yarn to make a modern project such as the rug shown below (pattern for this is included in the course*).
Skill level
Students should be confident with basic crochet techniques such as dc(UK)/sc(US), tr(UK)/dc(US), slip stitching, chaining and counting stitches. All other techniques will be taught in class.
Tools & Materials
Traditionally, filet crochet is worked with thread. For this course, we will use thread crochet that’s on the thicker end of the scale to make it easier for everyone!
A ball of thread (100g DMC Petra No.5 RRP £6) is included as part of the course.
You will need a 2mm crochet hook for making the sample. If you don’t have one, you can buy one when booking, please choose the correct option when booking.
Please remember that depending on your personal gauge, you may need a smaller or larger hook, i.e. from 1.5mm – 2.5mm.
